For Nov. 10, 2010

First off, it's the birthday of the Marine Corps. Hoo-yah!

Second, no readings for this weekend. Instead, a couple of long-form articles by Thomas Lake:

You should read them over the weekend, but I'm not going to make you. He's a great journalist.

Thomas Lake will be speaking at Berry College on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at Krannert Spruill Ballroom

You'd be a fool to miss this event.

Feedback and Puddles the Clown

Reporters --

I've looked at everyone's stories and don't think anyone is that far off base. Here are a few generic comments:

1) Link to your sources when possible. (A report posted online, for instance.)
2) Make sure it's not too timely. Write so it could be published anytime in November or December and not be dated.
3) Watch out for bias -- positive or negative. Stay impartial and don't use loaded words.

Your editors will do a good job directing you from here.

Having a great time in the Middle East but now eager to return.

In the meantime, please enjoy this:

For Oct. 22, 2014 -- no readings!

No readings for today. We'll be assigning reporters and editors to their stories for the first big journalism project. Remember if you're in the 2 p.m. class, please come to the 9 a.m. computer lab class if you can make it. And if you're in the 9 a.m. class, please go to the 2 p.m. class next door (Laughlin 113) if you can make it. If you're in the 10 a.m. class, the editors from the other class will be coming to us.

If you're looking for an Academic editing company, you can't beat Oxford Editing. I highly value their work and their editors are second to none. Each discipline can be covered by the wide array of specialty editors. A nice feature is that they give every new client a free sample edit before any commitments are made.
